Sent on COAT LETTERHEAD October 19, 2009 Dan Glickman Chairman and CEO Motion Picture Association of America 1600 Eye St., NW Washington, DC 20006 Dear Mr. Glickman: The purpose of this letter is to formally invite MPAA to meet with representatives of the Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT) to discuss H.R. 3101, the "Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009," as introduced by Representative Ed Markey on June 26 of this year. We are prepared to meet with you and/or your staff at your earliest convenience. In order to ensure that our discussions are productive, however, it would be helpful for us to have a sense of your positions on the specific provisions of H.R. 3101. To this end, we propose that you provide us with any objections that you might have to specific sections of the bill, along with alternative language that you would like to see replaced or added to the bill. We suggest that you provide us with this language by Tuesday, December 1, 2009, and that we set a time to meet in person soon thereafter to discuss your concerns. We are expecting that key Capitol Hill staff will be bringing all interested organizational players together soon to resolve our differences so that H.R. 3101 can move forward. We consider our preliminary meeting and exchange of information with you as a precursor to such Hill meetings, and believe that having this exchange in advance of those discussions will help to air any fundamental differences in perspective or approach that we might have. We would only ask that our discussions be focused on the actual legislative language that your organization may wish to incorporate into H.R. 3101. We remain committed and very interested in working with you to reach a consensus that will allow us to move ahead with passage of the proposed "Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act in this Congress." We believe that all of us share a common goal of ensuring maximum access to communications and video programming and technologies for people with disabilities, and we look forward to hearing from you soon to move this critical agenda forward.
