COAT Leaders Meet With FCC on Captioned Phone Service
Led by COAT affiliate HLAA, representatives from COAT affiliates -- AAPD, ASHA, CCASDHH, NVRC and TDI -- met with an FCC representative in FCC Chairman Genachowski's office on November 5, 2009 to ask the FCC for nationwide captioned telephone service. COAT emphasized the extensive record of comments at the FCC on this matter, petitions filed in 2005 and 2009, and how the vagaries of state-imposed rules limit demand. COAT requested the FCC to initiate and complete a rulemaking to mandate captioned telephone relay service nationwide over the public switched telephone network. Advocates left the meeting feeling encouraged that the FCC is looking favorably on the request.
For more information on the different forms of relay service, including captioned phone service, see FCC Fact Sheet.
